The Difference Between DUI & DWI Charges in Maryland
The state of Maryland distinguishes between DWI and DUI. DUI is the highest
alcohol infraction, typically seen where a driver's blood alcohol
concentration (BAC) is 0.08 grams of alcohol per 210 liters of breath
or 110 milliliters of blood or higher. DWI charges are lesser infractions
under Maryland law, but are still serious offenses. You can be charged
with a DWI if your BAC is between 0.05 and 0.07. Breath or blood test
results are not required to charge you and even if you declined to take
a test, you can still be charged with DUI and DWI. Whether you are charged
with DUI or DWI, you can face serious consequences if convicted. Under
the implied consent law, you can face penalties such as driver’s
license suspension for refusing to submit to breath or blood tests. DUI
and DWI matters should not be taken lightly.
